Our 2016 Renovations - Flooring Installation(Day 25) @Lowes #2350

Today we finally had our livingroom and dining room chair upholstery steam cleaned by Stanley Steemer.  I almost cried when I first saw what contractors did to my brand new furniture.

I have been inhaling this dust for weeks.  It finally looks normal again. Thank you Stanley Steemer!

Our 2016 Renovations - Flooring Installation(Day 42) @Lowes #2350

Today, We had our brand new GE 1/2-Hp Noise Insulation Garbage Disposal Item #:362721 Model #: GFC525V bought and installed @Lowes.

The install was quick and it works perfectly.  Our 10 year old disposal was 1/3-Hp and had become basically useless.

One of the features this new disposal has is a removable splash guard, my old one did not and was impossible to sanitize.  While this new one is touted as having noise insulation, it's just as loud the older model.  But at least it gets the job done 🤗

Our 2016 Renovations - Flooring Installation(Day 30) @Lowes #2350

Well, it seems that the damage done to my grout is irreversible.  No amount of vinegar and scrubbing is going to restore it to the way it should have been had it been done properly in the beginning.  Out of sheer frustration, I agreed to let them try epoxy in my closet so I can see what it would look like.  I have been vehemently opposed to any type of stain/epoxy because I think I should get the floor I paid for.

If we don't like the way my closet looks, there will be no other choice but to regrout.  What a mess!

Our 2016 Renovations - Flooring Installation(Day 29) @Lowes #2350

They scrubbing they did in the bedrooms did not work 🙄

The grout looks somewhat better.  There is still a silver haze over some and some areas showed no change.  I texted Hugo at American Floors Inc to let him know.  When he arrived at the house he brought an additional worker and said he would try rubbing the grout with dry towels to get the grout cleaned.

They spent all day rubbing lines of grout with a dry towel.  Meanwhile, another worker repeated another scrub in the bedrooms with vinegar and water solution.

What an absolute disaster ! We will see what the results are in the morning again!

Our 2016 Renovations - Flooring Installation(Day 28) @Lowes #2350

We met with Tracey from Lowes.  She took more pictures of the grout, toilets and stains that we left all along our walls.  After she left, Hugo from All American Floors Inc came by along with Another worker who was introduced as a tile expert.  They both agreed that the white grout was actually a haze created by the acid wash which can be removed, leaving our mocha color.

They scrubbed the two guest bedrooms then left for the day to allow it to dry. I guess we'll see if it worked in the morning !

Our 2016 Renovations - Flooring Installation(Day 27) @Lowes #2350

Today we continued moving our belongings from the garage, back into the house.  We also cleaned up the porch areas.  We rehung some photos that had been removed.  By Noon we took a much needed break from renovations.

Our 2016 Renovations - Flooring Installation(Day 26) @Lowes #2350

Lowes picked up the remaining unused materials today, we finally have our garage back.  But, they will be back.  Since the acid All American Floors put on my tiles turned my mocha grout white, the grout will have to be removed and replaced with the correct color. So on it goes :(

Our 2016 Renovations - Flooring Installation(Day 22) @Lowes #2350

Today, two new guys from All American Floors Inc., Greg and Nick arrived around 1:30pm to complete our floors.  They completed the grout on the section of my livingroom floors that were missed.
They later sent me to Lowes for an additional bag of silver grout for my kitchen, the other crew wasted it by incorrectly putting it into one of bathrooms and then having to dig it up to put in the correct color grout.  After they finished the grout they left to allow the floor to dry before moving my furniture.

While I was at Lowes, I signed the contract to have our new garbage disposal installed.  We will likely have that done mid February.  We don't want to add anything else until this flooring company completes their work.

All American Floors Inc graciously arranged for Stanley Steemer to come on Thursday to clean up the mess on my furniture left by the previous flooring crew.

I am cautiously optimistic where Greg and Nick are concerned.  They weren't talking on their cellphones with girlfriends and wives the whole time while working nor were their cigarette butts thrown all over my lawn as it was with the last crew from All American Floors Inc.

Our 2016 Renovations - Flooring Installation(Day 21) @Lowes #2350

We spent today on our hands and knees cleaning excess grout off the floors of closets in our guest bedrooms so we would store personal items inside while workers worked on the rest of the house.  It was really difficult work, it took numerous scrubbing attempts to remove the old grout which was left on the tiles.

It's unreal that we are now on day 21 of this renovation project which should have been completed weeks ago, ugh!

Our 2016 Renovations - Flooring Installation(Day 20) @Lowes #2350

We have finally completed all the cleanup we can do on our kitchen cabinets and pantry.  Unfortunately the kitchen tiles all have the same grout haze as the rest of the grouted tiles so it will have to be cleaned by All American Flooring.  I really hope this new crew they are sending Monday will be good.  I am so ready for this nightmare renovation to be over!

Our 2016 Renovations - Flooring Installation(Day 24) @Lowes #2350

We spent today slowly restoring our house to normal. We're replacing our belongings slowly so that we can declutter simultaneously.  Hubby is terrible at this part, he is a hoarder my nature, taught by his Mom.  Sometimes he will retrieve items from the trash that I've discarded, then I throw it out again when he is not looking.  lol

I'm hoping to add additional shoe racks to the granddaughter's closet and my own.  It's spring cleaning January!

Our 2016 Renovations - Flooring Installation(Day 23) @Lowes #2350

The same crew from yesterday, Greg and Nick, showed up today to clean the grout from my floors.  What a difference between these two guys and that other horrible crew we had!  I truly believe that if we would've had these guys from the beginning our whole floor experience would've been totally different.  Perhaps, I wouldn't be left with this distaste for All American floors Inc.

They arrived at 9:00am and spent the entire day cleaning up the mess left by the other crew.  They added grout to my kitchen backsplash, cleaned the tiles with an acid wash, wiped baseboards and added the missing molding.  These two guys were awesome and professional.  However, things once again, did not go as I hoped.   After the workers left and floor mocha colored grout began to turn white! Not just in one spot but throughout my entire house including the bathrooms!

WTH ! We are scheduling another home visit, this time with the store manager.

Our 2016 Renovations - Flooring Installation(Day 19) @Lowes #2350

Hugo, ( All American Floors Inc. ) left a voicemail stating someone will be coming on Monday to work on our floor, at Noon.  Guess coming to work at Noon is something everyone in his company does? Whatever happened to contractors coming in at 7am - 8am and putting in a full day's work?

We completed cleaning everything in our kitchen cabinets. Today I will begin the pantry.  I will have no choice but to discard any unopened packages since this dust seeps into everything.  So add wasted food to the long list of expenses All American Flooring Inc. is costing us.

Our 2016 Renovations - Flooring Installation(Day 18) @Lowes #2350

Most of my floors were left covered in grout.  Everything we have read on flooring installation states the longer this grout remains on our new tiles, the more difficult it will be to remove.  We bought these tiles brand new and will settle for nothing but "new" .  Even if it means replacing my whole floor!  This is ridiculous!

Our 2016 Renovations - Flooring Installation(Day 15) @Lowes #2350

Today we had representatives from both @Lowes and the Hugo from All American Flooring do a home visit.  My husband is the most honest man you will ever meet.  He is a good man both inside and out.  As you can imagine, It was very difficult to hear insinuations from the contractor that my husband was being untruthful or less than forthright.

We walked through each room pointing out our issues with the workmanship.  I'm not sure what can be done about the incorrect width of the grout lines, our contract calls for 1/8".

It became clear to me very quickly that he believed his workers and nothing that we had to say would convince him otherwise.  He discounted most of our concerns as trivial nonsense.  We just want the work completed.    We did not hire All American Flooring company, we hired @Lowes.

In the end, Hugo from All American Flooring promised to send another crew who would take the time to complete our floors & backsplashes. All we want is someone to take the necessary time to do the job right.  After they left,  I ordered copies of video surveillance from our security company of the whole walk through to keep in my files.

Our 2016 Renovations - Flooring Installation(Day 17) @Lowes #2350

The dishwasher installer came by today to complete his work on our cabinet molding.  Looks good as new.  He is a perfect example of an ideal contractor.  He made a mistake while removing our old dishwasher, instead of getting defensive, he did what needed to be done to correct the issue.

Mistakes happen, it's how those mistakes are handled that make a company.  I would do business with Hamilton Services again and recommend them without hesitation.

Our 2016 Renovations - Flooring Installation(Day 16) @Lowes #2350

Today we began the daunting task of cleaning up the mess the All American contractors made in our kitchen.  See that fine white dust? It is on everything.  We have already washed every wall in the kitchen.  Now we have moved to the cabinets.  That dust seeped into every cabinet, we will have to clean every shelf, every dish, every piece of silverware, every piece of linen.

Our 2016 Renovations - Flooring Installation(Day 13) @Lowes #2350

I cannot believe I'm still blogging about this renovation job.  I should be posting before and after photos  by now.  They arrived at 10am, left hour lunch at 11:30.  They played around most of the day, at the end of the day they tried to rush through my living room.  We finally had to kick them out.  The job in my livingroom is bad, REALLY bad.

Our 2016 Renovations - Flooring Installation(Day 12) @Lowes #2350

We are ever so slowly inching along in our remodeling.  Our contractors spent half their day laying a very small area left in our master bedroom & closet.  They are the slowest workers on earth, I swear!  I don't mind when they take their time working on my floors, it's all the constant smoke breaks and playing on their cell phones.  They spend more time on the breaks than working.  Finally, ALL the tiles have been laid!

The grout in the kitchen is completed.

The tub backsplash in our masterbath is completed except for caulking we ordered but the contractor refused to add.

Our 2016 Renovations - Flooring Installation(Day 11) @Lowes #2350

Today was a day spent shaking our head in disbelief at how these workers were ever hired by Lowes or anyone else.  The good part was that all three showed up.  It went downhill from there.  Because they botched the grout on our diningroom twice (it took 3 times to get it right), we ended up short of grout.  We drove to Lowes three times to buy grout, bulkheads & mosiac tiles which were all short from our supplies.  Finally, our point of contact in flooring expressed concerned over why we have to keep buying extra supplies.  Our response? "Incompetent contractors"

Main concern right now is grout . Lowes originally estimated that we would 15 bags for he entire house, excluding the bathrooms.  Following the diningroom fiasco, we purchased more bags from Lowes which cost us $.  Yesterday they used all FOUR bags just on our kitchen!  They are wasting so much of it by mixing all this grout & then dumping 1/2.

They were able to finish laying the tiles in the master bath.  They added tiles to the backsplash in the master bath.

They also completed the grout on floor of the kitchen
and 1/2 the grout in laundry room.
Today we will need to buy more grout.....again!

Our 2016 Renovations - Flooring Installation(Day 10) @Lowes #2350

Today started out encouraging and ended up disappointing.  Why am I not surprised with the absolute most undependable contractors @Lowes ever employed! We are on day 10 of what should have been a one week job!

Hubby and I started early wiping down walls in our kitchen and living room.  The dust from their botched job is everywhere, we'll be breathing this crap for a long time to come :/

One of the crew showed at 9:00am, and only one of the other two showed.  By 3:00, we were down to just one guy, Lance and he is the slowest of all three.  He was actually going to lay the wrong tile in the bathroom, thank goodness Hubby caught him before he started! Come On! Read your work orders!

They completed laying tiles in the kitchen,
laundry room
and master bath floor.

They still have to do our master bedroom, the grouting on half of my house, as well as the two backsplashes.

Our 2016 Renovations - Flooring Installation(Day 9) @Lowes #2350

Today the workers began laying tiles in our kitchen
Laundry room and finally our Master Bedroom
We had to buy more bags of grout due to their screw ups, ugh:/

Monday, January 11, 2016

Our 2016 Renovations - Flooring Installation(Day 8) @Lowes #2350

They completed the grout & added the shoe moldings in our two guest bedrooms, the guest baths, closets, diningroom & office.  I mopped each room.  It was a productive day compared to the last week.

All the furniture was returned to the finished rooms.

They used the WRONG grout!!@Lowes #2350 Flooring Installation(Day 7)

Our workers showed up for 2 hours today.  To be honest, I didn't expect them at all considering it was Sunday.  They added a layer of grout in the guest bathroom and guess what? Lance (work leader)used the WRONG grout!!!!!  This guy is the absolute worst!  How are they going to correct this ???????  The grout color we picked for the bath tile was mocha, the nearly the same as the bath tiles,
this silverado grout they mistakenly used was meant for my kitchen backsplash.
They added a second layer of grout to the two guest bedrooms

and they put a third layer of grout in the diningroom.

......Then they left.

Our 2016 Renovations - Flooring Installation(Day 6) @Lowes #2350

Once again I had to call @Lowes #2350 when our workers had not arrived by 10:30 am.  They finally showed up at Noon.  They completed laying down the tiles in the office and began to grout.  By the end of the day they had added grout in both guest bedrooms, the office & diningroom.

Saturday, January 9, 2016

Our 2016 Renovations - Flooring Installation(Day 5) @Lowes #2350

The contractors didn't show up until NOON, I had to call Lowe's around 10am to inquire where they were, I was advised they were on the way? I can't help but think how much further along we would be if they just showed up to work and put in a normal 8-hour day, which they have never done.

They finished the tiles in the two guest bedrooms,
and partially completed our office.

Once the office is completed they will need to do the grouting in the guest bedrooms & bath as well as the shoe molding.  We will need to transfer our master bedroom furniture into these rooms once their completed so they can begin on our master bedroom and bathroom.

Our 2016 Renovations - Flooring Installation(Day 4) @Lowes #2350

Our installation workers arrived at 9:30am and left at 5:30pm today.  They continued to work on the two guest bedrooms.  At the end of the day, they were still not done with the those two rooms, it looks like this after 3 days of working these two rooms.

My issues with the installation guys from Lowes is not with their competence, their craftsmanship is great,it's with their work ethics.  They arrive extremely late, take constant breaks & show absolutely no regard for my home or its contents.

This is my expensive diningroom table. See the dust from when they failed to protect it?  Yesterday I found them leaning their equipment against it!

Here are our custom made solar screens, they are permanently marred because they had the window open when they were sanding the cement.  We tried washing them, it doesn't come off.

Here is where they used our tiles we purchased from Lowes, to walk on.

Like I said, it's their work ethics:(

Our 2016 Renovations - Flooring Installation(Day 3)

The installation crew assigned to us is slow, I mean S - L - O -W.  Meander in anywhere from 9:30am to 10:30am.  Always with an excuse usually it's one of them are not feeling good that day.

Today we had Tracy from Lowe's installation department to come out see for herself the mess they have made in my kitchen and to see how slow they are progressing.  We showed her the water damage to our cabinet and  the dust that is on all of our kitchen furniture and countertops.

This morning they arrived at 10:30 AM and they left at 7:00 PM.

They put down the tile in our bathroom, they completed the tile in the foyer area and they did a small row in the hall and guest bedrooms.

Wednesday, January 6, 2016

Our 2016 Renovations - Flooring Installation(Day 2)

The installers didn't get much work done today.  Honestly, they spend more time outside smoking than working, ugh!  They spent today removing carpeting and sanding our two guest bedrooms.  The only planks they laid were in the foyer area.

Monday, January 4, 2016

Our 2016 Renovations - Flooring Installation(Day 1)

Today began our anticipated flooring installation.  We will be removing all the carpeting throughout our house & replacing it with ceramic.  The two man crew arrived at 10:00am and began ripping out the old flooring.

They quickly moved furniture out of the livingroom/den and began tearing up the old carpeting.  One thing no one warned us about, DUST!  We never observed anyone installing ceramic tiles and had absolutely no idea the amount of dust that comes from the installation.  By the time they began laying down the tiles, our kitchen and diningroom looked like this!

Why couldn't they warn us? We had plenty coverings we could have used without little effort.
