Hot chocolate rich in protein

In my post #vsg world, I like to keep my daily protein high 70-80.  Here is my goto recipe:

1 scoop Unjury chocolate ,1 cup organic soy, 1 tsp cinnamon. Heat the soy milk under 140 , mix & enjoy. YUMMY & healthy!

Halloween 2014 was treat free!!!

Happy Dance time!  I awoke this morning with the realization that I made it through Halloween without any candy, no cakes, no cupcakes, nada, zero, nothing.  The best part was it wasn't even a struggle.  I concentrated on having a great time, which I did.

Hubby bought tickets to Blue Man and it was an awesome night.  What a great NSV!

Friday Weigh-in Post....5 years and counting

Last Weeks Weight 172.0
Today's Weight  170.0
Total Loss:  -2 lb

It's been 5 years now since I began my blog.  I was preparing for lapband surgery and had visions of  the perfect body with no work or sweat.  I really thought I had done my research and that WLS was my absolute answer to 50 years of yoyo dieting.  I still didn't comprehend that WLS is only a tool and that it still required constant work and struggles.

I spent today looking back through my past October blog posts.  It was interesting to see where I was at this same time-frame over the last 5 years.  My lowest weight was when I was one year post op from the band.  Everything was rosy until......the band complications started and i ended up with an unfill...then another...until I had an empty band, pain and ended up back at the beginning of my journey.

What have I learned?  Even the sleeve is not my absolute answer.  Granted I cannot eat as much, but I can still choose the wrong foods.  The sleeve did not magically give me unlimited energy and drive to exercise.  Exercising is a decision I have to make on my own every single day.  Many days I wake up with the same excuses for not exercising that I had prior to surgery.

I think I will always have to be vigilant and aware.  Weighing myself everyday is stressful but I think I need that stress, not knowing the damage I am doing by making poor choices does me no good.  Now I weigh myself each morning, good or bad numbers, at least I cannot hide from it.

In 2013, I was 195 lbs and struggling with going low carb
"fell off the path to healthy this week.  I am trying so hard to dust myself off and continue.  I need to remember this is a lifelong journey and I will not be perfect all the time.  In my quest to remove grains from my diet, I have discontinued having bread in the house (much to Hubby's dismay).  Giving up grains is really hard...the cravings are enormous and always there.  I was not perfect, I had popcorn at a movie theatre and I had some wheat thins. "

In 2012, I was 202.5 lbs and didn't even bother to post the whole year, never a good sign.

In 2011, I was 178 lbs and I was struggling with my band and discussing revision surgery.
I am pretty much on my own again in my quest for a healthier me.  I can no longer tolerate fills so what I have now is pretty much it.   I have not been getting much love from my band in almost a year.  My surgeon wants to remove it all together due to my reflux problems.  So its time for me to face life without the band.  Revision surgery to the sleeve is an option but, I don't wish to self pay and insurance would require removing my band, gaining back all my previous weight and then a 6 month supervised diet."
In 2010, I was 158 lbs and recouperating from knee surgery
"Today was my 3rd post-op physical therapy appt. I was in so much knee pain, I had to take two painkillers when I returned home. The exercises seems so simple that I thought he was being too gentle on me. NOT! Calorie wise I have been successful at keeping @ or below 1200. I still get hungry & can eat far too much. I made an appt for a teeny tiny fill next week."

In 2009, I was 187 lbs and just starting my blog and this journey to a healthy lifestyle.
It was also when I had my lapband surgery.  I had lost 20 lbs that first month and was struggling with learning to eat healthy.

Friday Weigh-In....Is this the end?

Last Weeks Weight 172.0
Today's Weight  172.0
Total Loss:  0 lbs

The longest stall of my life continues.  I am seriously convinced that this is where I will stay.  Perhaps my body will never let go of any further weight.  Now I am worried that the "maintaining" part may turn into gaining if I am not careful.

I think I can be happy at the weight I am.  I am the healthiest I have been in years and I like how I look in clothes.  But, I somehow think I should have lost more.  I read posts from others who at the same point in their journey and they have lost so much more than me.  I try not to compare my journey to anyone else's but I can't help but feel those old feelings of another failure.

I know that I could live the rest of my life at this weight and be healthy.  I am tired of the struggle.  I am tired of the measuring and logging of foods.  I am tired of thinking about my weight, dieting has been such a huge part of my adult life and I would like to stop thinking about it now.

I am seriously frustrated but I know that now, more than ever, I need to continue blogging my way past this!

Friday Weigh-In

Last Weeks Weight 172.0
Today's Weight  171.0
Total Loss:  -1.0 lbs

It is difficult to write todays post and keep it upbeat.  I'm fighting deep inner frustration at the slow crawl of my weightloss journey.  I have been so close to the 160's for a very long time now and the scale just will not move.  I am trying desperately to trust the process and not give in to the urge to "diet".  Dieting is no longer an option, eating healthy and exercising is the only route I am willing to take.  I refuse to give into starvation diets or eating fake food.  It is so hard to keep looking to the future when I seem to be stuck in one place.

Fall is here, Fall always makes me feel renewed.  I love long walks when its cooler outside instead of melting from the everyday humidity that comes from living on the beautiful gulf coast.

I am going to try harder to adhere to the simple basics of eating healthy, exercising and logging into MFP every single time. That is all!

Friday Weigh-In- Hello Fall

Last Weeks Weight 172.0
Today's Weight  170.5
Total Loss:  -1.5lbs

Scale moved this week, finally!  The closer I get to my goal weight, the slower the scale moves, why is that?  I am still reminding myself that getting to goal will make no difference in my lifestyle.  I will still have to eat healthy and continue to exercise exactly as I do now.

NSV:  I continue to reach for clothes from my closet only to find they are too big.  It feels so delightful to put another item in my donation box.

Fitness: Swimming laps has come to an end.  The water has become too cold.  I plan to attend a gentle yoga class on Tuesday and will ride my bike at least 2x this week.  I increased the length of my walks to 4 miles per day and it has felt really good.

Nutrition:  I decided to add protein shakes back into my diet, one per day.  I find that I am rarely hungry at lunch and find myself eating just for the extra protein. A yummy shake will be just the thing to correct the problem.  I am also adding Vitamin D supplement once a day because I don't want to be on a schedule with getting sunshine.

Hydration: As the weather begins to cool, I will have to be more vigilant with my water. I noticed my intact decreasing already.

Last Week:  I found myself snacking too much this past week.  I asked Hubby to not buy any of "his" snacks for now.  I thought I had more willpower than I actually do, I cannot have certain foods in the house, I am simply not that strong.

My Upcoming Week  Routine will be my word of the week.  I need to get back into my routine of logging my food, water and exercise.  Back to basics and self awareness will also be goals for this week.

Friday Weigh-In & 6 months Post-op

Last Weeks Weight 172.0
Today's Weight  172.0
Total Loss:  0lbs

I AM HEALTHY!
Yep, I ran up all 72 steps!

As you can see Mr. Scale shows no movement this week.  I appear to be in a really long stall so I will continue to focus on NSV'S .  I am doing all the right things and trusting the process.

The biggest NSV I have this week is my 6 month post op blood work.  My blood work was perfect.  My numbers were in the normal range in EVERY SINGLE CATEGORY!  Getting healthy is the reason I started this path in first place.  My doc would like me to increase my vitamin D to be on the higher end of the scale, but right now it is in the normal range.   My surgeon said I am absolutely a superstar in his office, how cool is that? lol

My first six months have flown by and I think I have become comfortable in my healthy lifestyle. The changes I have made are now my norm.    I look for new healthy foods to try.  I am always looking for new recipes.  I haven't eaten from a can at all in the last 6 months, who needs it when I can cook fresh and freeze my own vegetables.

I am very comfortable in the size that I am.  I am in a solid size 10 and although I would love to lose more, it may not be what my body has in mind.  I  keep reminding myself that I will have to live my life on this healthy path forever, so what's the rush?  Absolutely nothing will change when I get to goal.  I will still have to eat the same way and exercise the same or more.

Friday Weighin - Focus

Last Weeks Weight 170.5
Today's Weight  172.0
Total :  +1.5lbs

NSV: My biggest NSV right now is being able to pull any piece of clothing from my closet or drawer and it fits, even Jeans!  I remember the anguish I used to experience whenever I had to go somewhere, not knowing if anything I owned would fit me.  Would my jeans snap? Would I have to lay down on the bed and suck in my breath to zip them? Do any of my skirts/dresses fit? I don't have that problem any longer, I KNOW it fits!

Fitness:  Since returning from our August road-trip, I jumped right back into my routine of running/walking & swimming.  We should continue to have use of the pool for several more weeks since its still in the 90's here.

Nutrition:  I am not getting enough protein lately.  I find myself skipping lunch so I have set a reminder on my phone.  I will resume logging my foods today, that should help also!

Hydration: Not a problem for me :)

Last Week:   During my month long August road-trip I ate pretty much anything I wanted.  I didn't log my foods.  I did focus on protein at breakfast, choosing boiled eggs over carbs.  The result is that I basically stalled in weight-loss.  Not good.

My Upcoming Week :  This week will be about refocusing.  Logging my foods, eating the right amount of food groups and getting back on track with my supplements.  YAY me!

Friday Weighin & August Road Trip!

Last Weeks Weight 172.5
Today's Weight  170.5
Total Loss:  -2.0lbs

NSV:  My most notable NSV for this week is guilt.  I feel guilt when I eat something unhealthy, I feel guilt when I eat something processed.  I feel guilt when I don't exercise.  I feel guilt when I don't drink my water.  Now I just need to channel that guilt to fuel more determination.  I consider it a NSV because I still care what I eat and do :)
Fitness: I failed miserably this week in all areas and fitness is one of them.  I have not exercised once this week.  I have lost my mojo.  I have no excuses to offer so I won't even try.  What I will do, is try to get back on my horse so to speak!

Nutrition:  The carb monster has gotten hold of me this week and its really awful.  The cravings are non stop.  The good thing is that I realize this and I will work on it!

Hydration:  I have done fairly well this week on hydration but I need improvement!

Last Week:  I had the grandkids for a week which is what led me off my path to healthy eating.  Trying to force them into good habits when I only have them a few days a year is futile.  I need to work on a plan for this on their next visit.  My failure was in not planning ahead for these temptations.  The kids love grilled foods and that would have certainly been an option.  They also like beans and cheese.  They are very picky on veggies but they do have a few they eat.  I WILL work on a plan for their next visit

My Upcoming Week:  We are leaving Sunday on a 5 week road trip that will take us through 12+ states.  I have planned to pack protein bars and nuts for backup.  We also will have a chest full of water and I will log my intake (GOOD OR BAD) without judgment and blog as often as possible to stay aware of my eating and fitness.   I am bringing my bathroom scale and will weigh in a minimum of once a week.  We have planned many nature walks/hikes for exercise.

Friday & July Weighin

Last Weeks Weight 172.0
Today's Weight  172.5
Total Loss for July : 2.5lbs

NSV:  I have to really focus on NSV's right now because my weightloss has stalled.  I know I am living healthy and exercising.  My NSV's this week include fitting into tops from my granddaughter (she wears medium) and my 2nd swimsuit of the summer is completely falling off of me.
Fitness:  Walking and swimming has become so much a part of my life now.  I truly miss it all day whenever I do not workout.

Nutrition:  I have eaten carbs more than usual this month, which I am sure resulted in my current stall. I have to curb the carb cravings again.  I hope to correct that this coming week.

Hydration:  I am doing wonderful on my water, getting in 80oz most days!

Last Week:  Ate too many carbs but I did eat veggies each day.  Snacking too much, but picking fruit as snacks.

My Upcoming Week  This coming week will be my last before our August Road Trip 2014.  We will be spending nearly 6 weeks on the road.  My challenge will be adding fitness into each day while still finding time to enjoy some sightseeing.  This week I will focus on water, veggies & no snacking (not even fruit) and really pushing my exercising to my limits.

Friday Weigh-In time!

Last Weeks Weight 174.0
Today's Weight  172.0
Total Loss:  -2.0lbs

I have 2 more weeks before our big road trip .  I plan to rev up my workouts my adding a series of 6 workout challenges to my routine to tighten my muscles.  The routines don't require the gym, making it easier to continue on the road.  I need to really focus during these weeks.

NSV:   My newest swimsuit is getting too big.  This is the 2nd one this summer, I have had to replace due to weightloss! Luckily I still have one more that will hopefully get me through the rest of this summer.  Next summer will certainly require shopping lol

Fitness: I have started running a little farther with each morning walk., I am walking 4 miles now.  Once a week I increase my walk to 4.5-5 miles.  I hope to increase it to 6 miles .

Nutrition:  I am staying under 1200 calories but I feel like I'm eating too much cheese.  I've addressed this problem before.  I love cheese but I feel I need to reduce the amount to keep my scale moving.

Hydration: I'm falling short of 64oz, need to drink more!

Last Week: I feel I did fairly well on my weekend trip to Cajun country.  I packed plenty water & exercised during my big hike.  I feel I need to make changes for breakfast.  I didn't eat carbs, I had omelets & bacon, but I think I can do healthier.

My Upcoming Week. I have another long road trip ahead of me today.  12+ hours in one day in fact!  I'm bringing my water but not really packing snacks with the exception of a protein bar.  I don't need to snack all day.  The only thing coming is a restaurant dinner for my granddaughters birthday.  I don't know where yet, but I will plan ahead!

Opelousas Trip -Day 2 hiking in da swamp

Our efforts to live a more healthy, active lifestyle is challenging while traveling.  It takes commitment to make time for fitness during trips.  Finding new & interesting activities makes it more fun.

We are on a mini vacation in the heart of Cajun Country and thought a swamp hike would be fun.  Although we regularly walk each morning around our neighborhood, real hiking (as in wilderness) is not something we have done.

We started out 6am with a beautiful supermoon for light.

It hasn't rained much here lately so the trail was solid.  The views that awaited us for our efforts were beautiful.

We hiked for 2.25 miles.
I found hiking to be fun & now I want more! I plan to read up more on it.  I need to buy some basic gear though.  Anyone know where a beginner hiker should start? Perhaps i can join a group !

Opelousas Trip-Day 1 Eating wisely

Hubby & I visited one of favorite Louisiana restaurants in Lafayette, the heart of Cajun country.   Cajun food is NOT and will never be a large part of my new healthy lifestyle.  Most Cajun food that I grew up with were fried and laden with fat, gravy & loaded with carbs. I am always working to revamp my favorite dishes but some just cannot be changed.

Still, Cajun food is part of my heritage and my childhood so I allow it in moderation. Hubby & I seldom allow ourselves to eat fried foods of any kind.  Tonight was one of those times that we allowed ourselves to indulge.

I think I handled it quite well compared to my former life.  Hubby and I shared a bowl of gumbo,  normally I would have eaten the whole thing.  I ordered 2 fried softshell crab, I ate 3/4 of one then gave hubby the rest. NO french fries passed my lips. AT THE END OF THE NIGHT I WAS MORE THAN SATISFIED.

If you ever find yourself in Lafayette, Louisiana try Randol's.  They have the perfect Cajun experience complete with authentic Cajun food, music & dancing!

Friday weigh in & roadtrips

Last Weeks Weight 174.5
Today's Weight  174.0
Total Loss:  -.5lbs

My nemesis right now and probably for next 8 weeks are vacation eating.  When I am home and buying & preparing my own foods it's easier to eat healthy & not be tempted by these evil carbs.  Traveling requires more willpower and I am sadly lacking self control here.  I will be road tripping heavily until mid-September I need to get a plan of action to deal with my food choices while on the road.

Fitness:  My walks are becoming routine now.  When I skip I feel weird the rest of the day.  Swimming is still fun but becoming more tedious.  I begin getting bored with swimming in late summer each year.   I will need to replace it with a new activity in September anyway as the pool closes.

Nutrition:  I've gotten back on program this week except for a couple meals out with my kids.  I need to make better choices when eating out.

Hydration: no problem getting my liquids in.  This heat leaves me thirsty all day.

Last Week: I had a weekend road trip with my kids which lead to some poor restaurant choices.  There is room for improvement here.

My Upcoming Week.  Another road trip to a family wedding this weekend.  I will eat all 3 meals at restaurants for 3 days (not including the wedding).  My plan is to stick to protein & salads for lunch & dinner.

Farmers Market Thursday

I Love local Farmers Market day.  Today I  stocked up on beautiful fresh, locally grown veggies like, zucchini, okra & tomatoes.  I will cook tons of my Kajun Smothered Okra to freeze and enjoy al year. You can find my recipe here.  Can't get much healthier than that!

Friday Weigh-In & Mexico!

Last Weeks Weight 177.0
Today's Weight  174.5
Total Loss:  -2.5lbs

NSV:  I have had a marvelous time shopping in my own closet.  Everyday I find clothing that I loved too much to part with, so they were stuffed into drawers or the back of my closet.  Trying them on and having them fit? PRICELESS!
Fitness:  I dropped the ball on strength training.  I told myself a million reasons why I didn't go but the bottom line is I hate the gym and I need to get my mojo back to go.  My cardio is going great!  I walk 40-75 minutes everyday followed by 35 minutes of swimming laps.

Nutrition:  I am averaging 1000 calories a day now.  The carb monster will not leave me alone, every single day I am fighting cravings.  Wonder if protein bars can be the cause?  I may try to step away from them for awhile to see if it helps.

Hydration:  The Heat & Humidity are here and it's helping me to surpass my water intake goals..  No problem here :)

Last Week:  I've had a stressful week with the sickness and loss of a dear family member.  I am fighting the need for comfort foods, so far I am winning.

My Upcoming Week:  I am heading on a short 5 day cruise to Mexico with the Hubby, Granddaughters, Son, DIL & step grandsons.  I have a plan to eat plenty protein and fresh foods but I know it is going to be a struggle.  The food on cruises are loaded with salt, I expect a short term gain, but it usually dissipates as the salt leaves my body.  I'm very excited about the cruise, but nervous about gaining.  Please send me good vives!

NSV Alert!

I found a swimsuit I love stuck way in the back of a drawer and it fits!   I loved it when I bought it couple years ago when I lost weight on one of my MANY yo-yo diets.  #vsg

Carb is a carb is a carb...

Quest is my favorite protein bar.  It touts only 5g of carbs, but it is NET carbs.  I'm sorry but my body doesn't compute net carbs.  If I eat 22g carb foods, my weightloss WILL stall. What aggravates me is when MFP post 5 carbs when I truly wish it would just add the whole 22 grams. Period.

Friday Weigh In

Last Weeks Weight 178.5
Today's Weight  177.0
Total Loss:  -1.5lbs

NSV:   My arms have more definition than when I started.  My bat wings seem to be less, I still have plenty of them but less of them.  My rings are loose on me now.  My knees hurt at night because they are bony now and keep rubbing against each other as I sleep.

Fitness: I am still swimming and walking.  I am lagging and struggling with everything this week, including strength training.  I haven't been at all this week.  I will go to the gym 2x this week.

Nutrition:  I am struggling in this area as well.  I ate too many carbs.  Today is a new day.  I need to control the carb monster.  He has taken control of me again and the urges are strong.

Hydration: I have not tracked my water in 3 days but I think I have been doing fairly well.

Last Week:   I had 2 glorious days with my granddaughters.  We visited a water park, went to the movies and also a fantastic acrobatics show.  I ate popcorn twice, ice cream and blueberry pie.  Not a good week but it's behind me now and I need to focus on rebooting my healthy plan starting today.

My Upcoming Week:  This will be my final week before we leave on a family cruise to Mexico.  I need to concentrate this week on controlling my carb monster and completing 2X strength training.  I am truly struggling right now to get back on my path!

Friday Weigh-In Post~Dem Bones

Last Weeks Weight 179.5
Today's Weight  178.50
Total Loss:  -.5lbs

NSV:   My favorite NSV this week is bones.  As in shoulder and collar bones, mine are so much more defined now.  They make my whole facial area seem leaner.  Another major victory has been that I have not allowed myself to fall into temptation with all the unusal treats in my home this week.  My youngest granddaughter is visiting and with her comes extra snacks, stress and other unexpected temptations. Normally I would let a visit become a junk food eating fest, NOT good for her or myself.  Gratefully it did not occur.

Fitness:   The Bad:  My cardio workouts have suffered this week as I made time for much needed Granddaughter time.  It's only one week and I wouldn't trade a minute of  this week.  She leaves tomorrow and my world will once again become predictable and organized again.  The good:  I have managed to maintain my 2x weekly strength training.

Nutrition:  My weightloss has slowed the last 2 weeks and while some may be due to less cardio, I think it is more likely to be from increased carbs.  Not the usual suspects (breads, pasta, wheat), but in the form of fruit like watermelon, grapes etc.  I will be watching this very closely in the next week.

Hydration:  I still have to track my water intake carefully.  No tracking=Not enough

Last Week:  I wasn't as consistent with my program as I would have liked but I anticipated it.  I ate more On the other hand, I participated in bowling, wii fit, horseback riding and swimming with my granddaughter.

My Upcoming Week: This coming week is not without its complications.  Tuesday is Olive Garden with all the family for  Hubby's birthday.  We will be on a two day vacay to celebrate our anniversary which is on Thursday.  I plan to bring boiled eggs, cheese sticks, almonds & protein bars to help keep the restaurant eating at a minimum.  It's difficult to control the sodium when eating out which causes my weightloss to stop.

I am 2 lbs away from being 1/2 way to goal....I plan to post before and after pics when I reach it!!!

Workout Wednesday - Splishing and Splashing

My swimming has improved over this last month.  I can do more laps with less rest stops.  I added fins to my swimming now.  I got the idea from my granddaughter's coach.  It helps to strengthen my legs while doing my laps.   I can absolutely feel the difference.

After swimming my laps, I have added some pool exercises.  I added various leg kicks, stretches and push ups on the side of the pool.

My walking has been somewhat sporadic this week due to my granddaughter spending the week.  She's is only here for a week and I am spending all my free time making memories.

Strength Training

I completed my goal of 30 minutes of gym times 2x /week.  I am slowly adding more weight.  I don't have the extra money for a trainer so I try to watch and learn from regulars.  It has helped me to improve my form and to add variety to my exercises.

Funtimes

This week I brought my granddaughter bowling twice.  Usually I just sit and watch as she bowls, not this time.  I bowled with her, so much more fun!  I have also spent time with her playing various Wii fit games, it was fun for both us while getting in a little workout for grandma :)

Last week:
I swam laps 2 days & walked a total of  5 miles. Walked a total of 5 miles so far this month.  I did complete  2 days of strength training.
Goals for the upcoming week:
I will complete at least 2 days of strength training
I will complete at least 3 days of walking
I will complete 3 days of swimming laps

Workout Wednesday- My uphill battle

NSV ~This hill is steep, you cannot see the road or houses on the other side.  Prior to my surgery, I would walk a different path just to avoid this hill.  Even when I did try to walk it slowly, my knees would hurt and I would be left breathless.  I now walk longer and faster than ever before so I decided to try it again.  My first attempt surprised me because it was so much easier than I hoped.   No panting, no knee pain.  Last week, I began sprinting up the hill.  Not a casual stroll or even a fast walk, but a sprint!  Every time I make it to the top I feel like Rocky, Champion of the world!

Last week:

I swam laps 6 days & walked a total of  17.40 miles. Walked a total of 66.9 miles so far this month.  I completed 2 strength training sessions.

Goals for the upcoming week:

I will complete at least 2 days of strength training
I will complete at least 5 days of walking
I will complete 4 days of swimming laps

Friday Weigh-In Post....on Saturday

Last Weeks Weight 180.0
Today's Weight  179.5
Total Loss:  -.5lbs

NSV:  Goodbye 180's forever!  Mr. Scale bounced back and forth between 179.0, 179.5 & 180 all week, very frustrating.  I don't count a new number on the scale unless it is reflected twice in a row.  That finally happened.  It was only 1/2 lb but I am clearly in the 170's now!  I am just 3 pounds away from my 1/2 way mark....so exciting and exasperating at the same time because Mr. Scale is moving at a snails pace right now.
Fitness:  I met all my fitness goals for this week.  This week I was able to walk each day due to unbelievably gorgeous weather.  There has been just a hint of cool air in the mornings with low humidity.  I was able to swim each day except Wednesday when the pool was closed.  I also got to the gym 2X for strength training.
Nutrition:  I am getting protein in at each meal without a problem.  I fell low in veggies this week mostly because I did not include them with breakfast,  Most mornings breakfast consists of a veggie omelet with farm eggs, organic cheese from our local dairy and lots of veggies from the farmers market.  This week I ran out of veggies mid-week.  I am trying to eat one fruit each day as well, this week that was mainly blackberries that we picked.
Hydration:  I would like to increase my water intake to 10 cups beginning today.

Last Week:   I would describe myself  last week as PARTICIPANT instead of OBSERVER.   I went horseback riding for an hour with the grandkids.  I haven't been riding in 20+ years, I was slightly sore the next day.  Later that same evening I swam with the grandkids for another hour.  I participated instead of watching them ride or swim.  I really enjoyed being part of the fun instead of hiding behind the family photographer role.

My Upcoming Week:  This weather should cooperate this coming week.  We will be going on a short vacay at a casino hotel Wednesday and Thursday.   Our plans include walks along a bridge and swimming in the hotel pool.  I will get in a workout at the Gym on Monday & Wednesday before we go so there will be nothing to keep me from my Strength Training goal.

Workout Wednesday post

I was only able to swim laps one time this week due to cold weather and pool maintenance, BUMMER!  It wasn't from lack of wanting to swim it just didn't work out like I planned.  I am hoping for better luck this week.

I did enjoy wonderful long walks with my  Hubby.  Today I tried something new to increase my heart rate during my morning walk.  Every time I came to a Hill I ran as fast up the hill.  I no longer run nor do I wish to begin running again at this point.  But a light jog up the hills did raise my heart rate and made my walks more challenging.

My most important accomplishment this week was getting to the gym twice.  I did strength training with Hubby twice this week and I plan to continue doing strength training 2X each week until swimming season is completed and then I hope to increase to 3X each week.

Friday Weigh-In

Last Weeks Weight 182.5
Today's Weight  180.0
Total Loss:  -2.5lbs

I was truly hoping to be able to jump for joy at reaching the 170's this week, but I will gladly accept a 2-1/2 pound loss any week. I am only 4.5 pounds from my 1/2 way point!!!  I am hoping that my slower losses are more to blame on my lower BMI than it is anything that I am doing wrong.  My nutritionist and dietitian both told me that slower losses will help me have less saggy skin, I sure hope they are right!

NSV:  I was forced to shop for workout shorts because all my shorts are just falling off me.  Awful I know,  but I am trying not to buy clothes that I know will not fit me in a month or two.  Of course I couldn't buy new clothes without new shoes to go with them so today I am sporting some new Reeboks!

Fitness:  I am doing well with my walking and swimming.  I will not get in as many swim days as I hoped this week due to a cool front...the water is a bit chilly now but I think it will be warmer by Monday.  I was able to get in my 2 days at the gym, this is a huge improvement.  I think I will probably work up to 3 days eventually.  It's really hard to find gym time when I am swimming because it wears me out.  Besides, swimming laps is definitely working my arms because they feel like jelly when I'm done.

Nutrition: I have done well on my eating plan this week.  I'm getting 70-80g protein and minimal complex carbs. NO sugar NO bread NO pasta  I have been getting in at least one serving each  of fruit and veggies.  With the farmer's markets overflowing with fresh veggies it will continue to get easier to have more.

Hydration:  Water continues to be a struggle.  I am drinking 64oz but  I MUST keep a log or I find myself lacking.  I won't go to bed unless I have drank all that I need.

Last Week:  My big obstacle last week was Mother's Day and I think I handled it very well.  I had a small piece of salmon, a few boiled shrimp, some crab and spinach.  I also had a bit of fruit and 2 bites of dark chocolate covered strawberries.  I enjoyed my day and never felt deprived.  The rest of the week was easy to stay on my path.

My Upcoming Week :  Tomorrow is horseback riding with my granddaughters.  They are excellent riders while I have not ridden since I was a teen so I expect to be walking a little funny afterwards :)  My challenge for this week is there will be a lot of  dining out. Tonight will be Chinese night and I plan to have some soup & one piece of chicken without the skin.  Saturday we will be having seafood and I will have fish.  Sunday is another brunch but there is also lots of healthy seafood on the menu.  I have said it many times that I am so glad to be living in a place where fresh seafood is so abundant.

Workout Wednesday's

I decided to do a weekly post concentrating on my Fitness.  I will reflect on what I did in the previous week, goals for the upcoming week and strive for variety.    I want to begin setting small goals.  Although I feel like I am doing good lately, there is always room for improvement.  Perhaps it will also serve as a way to add new things.

Cardio

This past week I have been able to add swimming to my workouts.  The pools are not heated so I had to wait until it warmed enough to swim.  It is also weather dependent and rain can get in the way.  The pool is also closed on Wednesday for maintenance.  We have other pools we can use that day but I decided to use Wednesday as a chance to add something new.

Hubby and I walk each mornings alternating between 40 & 60 minutes walks.  In the evening we usually walk 20 minutes after Supper.

Strength Training

There is plenty room for improvement in this area.  I am going to commit to getting to the gym 2x this week.  Later, I will try to add some yoga. I'd also like to try the plank.

Funtimes

This is an area that will cover riding bikes, playing ball etc with my kiddies.  Also vacations and holidays.

Last week:
I swam laps 5 days & walked a total of  13.79 miles. Walked a total of 27.5 miles so far this month.  I did not complete any strength training.

Goals for the upcoming week:
I will complete at least 2 days of strength training
I will complete at least 5 days of walking
I will complete 4 days of swimming laps

Friday Weigh-In & Mother's Day weekend

Last Weeks Weight 184.5
Today's Weight  182.5
Total Loss:  -2.0lbs

Look at the all the beautiful veggies I bought from our local farmer's market.  I have plans to make a root vegetable soup (will post recipe later), squash casserole, and roasted turnips.  I love summer!

The scale is moving again after a 2 week stall.  One of those weeks was during our trip to Atlantic City.  We had a fantastic time.  I ate whatever a wanted (in much smaller portions) and never gained an ounce!  We also walked the boardwalk every day, some days we did it twice just because the weather was so dang nice.  The 170's are so close and I'm very impatient to get there.

NSV:  My closet is getting very bare as I purge the clothing that no longer fits.  Sometimes I find items that were too small and have them fit perfectly!  It's great to shop within my own closet :)  I am putting off going real shopping for as long as possible, I hate thinking of buying things that will no longer fit me in a month or two.

Fitness:  I track my workouts in MFP and it has been helping to keep me dedicated.  I have been alternating morning walks between 4 and 2 miles.  The pool has warmed enough to begin swimming laps, I started doing 20 minutes of laps yesterday and it feels wonderful!  I still need to find the time to add some strength training.

Nutrition:  I am still tracking my food intake and usually get 70-80g of protein. I  have become comfortable in my low carb lifestyle.  Seafood is always a staple in our family and I have started experimenting with new vegetable recipes. I usually eat veggie omelet mid-morning, at least one fruit a day for snack and supper is a protein and a vegetable.  I also add a protein shake when its necessary to meet my protein goal, I love the chocolate ones.

Hydration:  I am still tracking my water intake and have to keep focused on it.   I find if I don't track, I fall short.  I only count pure water, any other liquids like milk or protein shakes I count with my food.  I think now that the heat of summer is upon us, drinking more water will come more naturally.

My Upcoming Week:  I have several challenges this week.  Of course the biggie....Mother's Day!  I will be doing a Mother's Day buffet of all things. (eye roll)  I keep telling everyone its a waste of money to pay for something like this since I cannot eat much.  I am reminded it is also a social affair so I will concentrate on talking and enjoying the day and eat only my small portion.    Saturday we will be attending a seafood boil, not so bad as long as I concentrate on eating the seafood and not the alcohol.  The rest of the week looks normal with nothing to derail my healthy lifestyle efforts.

Happy Mothers Day !

Friday Weigh-In and Atlantic City

No weight loss this week.

Mr. Scale decided not to cooperate this week.  This would be my 2nd stall in 8 weeks, but I am not concerned, why?  Because, I reviewed my MFP diary and I did well in all my areas.  I am walking the walk and talking the talk....I know the losses will come.

I decided to dedicate this week's weigh-in to some awesome NSV's

  • My face, chin and neck area are noticeably smaller.
  • I can see my shoulder bones
  • I am fitting into clothing 3-4 sizes smaller.  I haven't been able to wear these items in 2 years!
  • Family & Friends are beginning to notice/comment on my progress
  • I am eating healthier than ever
  • I am able to walk 4 miles now and begin gym workouts
  • I am drinking a minimum of 64oz of water daily, sometimes more
  • My sweet Hubby says I don't snore any longer and my breathing when I sleep is so quiet he has to really listen to hear.
  • My tummy is flatter
  • My undies are too big
  • I only take BP meds on an occasional basis now.
  • My nails & skin look better

My NSV list goes on and on.  I actually considered changing my weigh-in from weekly to monthly but the fat person inside me needs the feedback from Mr. Scale.  Seeing the number on the scale go down and even stay the same is inspiring.  I may revisit this thought during maintenance.

Hubby and I are headed to Atlantic City next week. We are staying at Caesars.  Any suggestions on things to do or see?  How about healthy restaurants? Any absolute musts? I am not concerned about what I eat as I am the sodium in the foods.  I can control my sodium when I'm home but it is much more difficult in restaurants, even when eating healthy.  The weather forecast is not optimum for most of our trip so I may have to workout in their fitness room.  I am going to work my program the best I can and hope for the best.

Freezing Fresh Kale

During my trip to our local Farmers Market I bought tons of fresh Kale.  They are so abundant & affordable right now.  I ended up with more than I could prepare so I decided to try freezing them.  It worked beautifully, now I have freezer stocked with kale for use in my recipes.

Preparing Kale for freezing.

1.  First I cut the kale from the stalk, this was really the most time consuming part.

2.  Next I blanched them in a pot of boiling water for 3 minutes.  I used my canning pot.

3.  Next, dunk them into ice water for an additional 3 minutes.

4.  I then I grab handfuls and squeeze them into balls about the size of my palm removing as much moisture as possible & placed each section/ball onto a pan.

Flash freeze them until they are hard & keep their shape.  Now I could place the individual balls into one freezer bag for storage.  Now I can grab just what I need without having to defrost a whole bag at one time ;)

Good Friday Weigh-In Post

Last Weeks Weight 186.0
Today's Weight  184.5
Total Loss:  1.5

We were supposed to be sitting on a beach in Florida today, alas the weather didn't cooperate so we cancelled.  It is drizzly outside today but it is supposed to be beautiful for the next week or so. YAY!  Mr. Scale gave me a modest 1.5 pound loss this week.  I will certainly take that with a huge smile.

NSV'S

  • My wedding ring had gotten so uncomfortable tight that I quit wearing it, this week it is actually getting too loose!
  • Went to a conference where they served delicious steak and rich desserts but I choose the healthier 1/3  of a filet of baked fish.   I passed on the loaded baked potato as well as the dessert &  Appletini!
  • I wore pants this week that I could not fit into for 2 years!

Nutrition- This week I succeeded in keeping my protein closer to 80g range.  I lose better when I keep my protein high.  Fresh Strawberries and a roasted Turkey breast were the main staples of my menus this week.  There is nothing better than a bowl of strawberries from our local farmers.  I was right on target in every area of Nutrition.  I logged my foods in MFP everyday without exception. Commitment!

Hydration-  Keeping track of my water is essential right now.  Without tracking I would have been low on a couple days.  I try to check it each evening before bed so I can drink additional water if necessary.  Awareness !

Fitness-I walked a 5k 3X but we missed our "exotic" walk this week due to Easter activities with the kiddies.  I did spend a day working out in my garden which was glorious.  There is room for improvement here!

My Upcoming Week- I received the green light for gym workouts so I am committing to a minimum of 2 strength training sessions my first week.  Our exotic walk will be across a beautiful bridge on Wednesday.  I have to fast on Monday for upcoming blood work to. We also have a breakfast planned on Wednesday but breakfast is not problem for me getting mostly protein.  Easter Sunday is the big unknown as we plan to visit each of our families and not sure if it will be at their homes or include a restaurant.  Not too many obstacles to avoid but I will need to stay fairly flexible this week.

Happy Easter Everyone!

6 week Post Op-Surgeon Visit

It's still difficult to believe that 6 weeks have gone by since my surgery.  I have no pain or complications, in fact, I have had NO complications from the beginning.  I credit this to both my wonderful Surgeon who I love to pieces and my strict adherence to his rules and guidelines.  I have done everything by the book, never tried to escalate my food schedule or "test" my limits.

This visit I wrote down a list of questions to be sure I didn't forget to ask.  I am cleared to eat all foods except steak (4 months).  I am also cleared for all physical activity without exceptions.  I have reduced my blood pressure meds to 1-2 a week, hopefully it will be gone forever as my weight drops. I can continue my estrogen and I requested orders for a complete blood work now and he said he would repeat it again in 3 months.  I take subliminal iron & b12 along with calcium citrate, biotin & Centrum Silver.  With the exception of iron & b12, I was taking all these supplements on my own anyway.

My weight continues to drop except for a one week stall.  I am walking a 5K each day and keeping my protein on the high end near 80 most days.  I am down to one protein drink a day but will continue to strive to get it all from food.   I enjoy an icy cold chocolate protein shake as a treat in the summer so I doubt I will drop them completely.  I follow a low carb diet, no white anything.

A usual day of eating at 6 weeks post op:

Breakfast ~usually consists of  veggie omelets with 1 egg& 1 egg white or protein oatmeal with fruit & nuts
Lunch- some type of Soup with added protein (leftovers)
Supper- Protein & Veggie
Snacks~ 1/2 protein bar or a shake & fruit

Do I feel comfortable in my decision today?  Yes!  This time around is so different from LapBand, no food getting stuck, no more sliming or PBng, no more pain between my ribs, no more discomfort from hitting my port or having fills (not to mention the costs of visits)..... The sleeve was not an option when I made my choice, I was given a choice between bypass & sleeve, and I knew bypass wasn't for me.  I would never recommend the LapBand to anyone today.

Weekly Friday Weigh-In & Major NSV

Last Weeks Weight 188.5
Today's Weight  186.0
Total Loss:  2.5
I am quite pleased with Mr. Scale today.  I worked really hard on every aspect of my path to healthy.  There were obstacles but I planned ahead and overcame them.  This week I was able to add more foods back into my diet which is making things so much easier.

A wonderful NSV for me this week was in the form of self control while shopping for Easter basket treats for all the children.  Normally my basket would have included one or two bags for myself....That did not happen.  I walked down each aisle filled with yummy delights and ignored the devil on my shoulder who said..."buy just one, what would it hurt?"  MAJOR NSV!!!

Nutrition-  I was able to add my beloved seafood back into my diet this week.  This is huge because we live on the Gulf Coast where seafood is abundant and a major staple in our diets. I couldn't partake of the corn yet but everything else was a green light.
With the addition of seafood comes much needed iron, B12, potassium and protein.  It is still my goal to get my nutrients from foods so that I can discontinue supplements.  I do love chocolate protein shakes but would prefer them to be an occasional treat rather than everyday.  Another good/poor addition to my diet this week is protein bars.  I ordered some Quest protein bars in the brownie and the cookies & crΓ¨me flavors weeks ago in anticipation of adding them to my plan.  One day this week I was unexpectedly out the entire day without access to any food and my protein bar was very convenient.  What I didn't expect was for them to taste so good, I soon found myself wanting another and another.  The bars may become a binge food and I will have to figure out a strategy for portion control.

Hydration-I am having no problems getting my 64oz of water each day.  In fact, most days I had much more.  My water always increases in the warmer months of summer, YAY!

Fitness-I have walked every day including two 5K's this week.  I had 2 days at the gym using the elliptical, lifecycle and even did some light dumbbells.

A peek at my upcoming week.  This week is Spring Break for the grandkids so they will be here much of the time.  A mini vacay to Orange Beach, AL is planned along with spring shopping trips, gardening with my youngest and perhaps a fishing trip.  I also have my one month post-op visit with my Surgeon on Wednesday.  I hope to get the all clear for more gym work but I think he will likely want me to wait 6 weeks.

One Month Post-Op

My surgery is a distant blur now with exception of an occasional soreness where my port was removed.  I have to wonder how much worse it would have been had I waited for more scar tissue to grow around my port.  Honestly, if not for my port incision I would be completely pain free.

Nutrition- I am logging my foods & trying very hard to keep my protein around 80 & water @ 64oz.  Getting more of my protein from foods has become easier as I am now able to include eggs & fresh fruit.

Fitness- I am now walking a 5K each morning with my Hubby.  Working out with very light weights at the gym 3 days a week. My energy increases each day.

I am pleased with my weightloss so far and excited to continue on my new path to a healthy lifestyle.

Friday Weekly Weighin

Last Weeks Weight 188.5
Today's Weight  188.5
Total Loss:  0

This week I hit the inevitable weightloss stall.  I was expecting it after 3 straight weeks of awesome losses.  Emotionally I was prepared and honestly just relieved that it wasn't a gain.  I have seen others have small gains after weeks with large losses.  After 5 years of weekly weighins I have come to grips with my scale fetish and it no longer ruins my whole week.  I weighin, I log it, I blog it then move on.

Fitness~ I have increased my walks to 2.5 miles this week.  I'd like to increase to a 5k each day.  Also began the gym 3x a week.  I stuck with my 3lb weights because I am unable to do any ab exercises until 6 weeks out.  I also added elliptical and bike this week.  Hubby and I also try to do what we call exotic walks once a week.  It may be over a lovely bridge, through a local park or on the beach, just to spice it up.

Nutrition~I am able to eat more foods this week.  Well cooked veggies, beans, cheeses and eggs.  I am still off all sugar and stay away from any other carbs.  I am having no trouble keeping my protein 60-80g per day and I always to well with water when it is warmer weather.

I am very happy with my progress so far and looking forward to this new path my life has taken.

HAPPY TGIF!!

3 weeks-post op

My hospital stay is a distant blur now.  My incisions are still healing with some scabs.  I still have some tenderness on my left side, doesn't really hurt, just a pulling if I bendover too fast or too far.

Healthy Eating-I'm able to add well cooked soft veggies like string beans, squash, beans, asparagus tips & carrots back into my diet this week.  I'm keeping my protein mostly around 70grams.  I found out that hummus is going to be a problem food for me.  I love the stuff too much, I mean it is healthier than some others binge foods I eat but I will have to buy it occasionally to keep it under control.

Fitness- I'm still walking mostly 3x a day . Today I replaced my noon walk with 20 mins on elliptical
& life cycle at the gym just to see how it felt.  I was surprised how quickly I tired so I will try to continue while slowly increasing levels/time.

TGIF Weekly Weigh-In Post

Last Weeks Weight 192.0
Today's Weight  188.5
Total Loss:  -3.5
I started my weekly weigh-In posts in 2009.  Even during periods when I was binging, I forced myself to get on that scale and record the number, good or bad.  I'm not going to lie, when I was making poor choices and not exercising, it was very difficult to step on that scale.  Accountability for my health is an important lifestyle change I made back then.  It didn't necessarily stop me from spiraling out of control but at least I was doing it with both eyes open.
Along the way I have made some good lifestyle changes.  Not enough to get my weight under control or exercise when I should, but good changes none the less.
  •  Sodas have been gone from my life for 5 years now, I gave it up and never looked back.
  • Hubby and I both gave up artificial sweeteners due to headaches and heart burn.  It's been 2 years now.  We like a teaspoon of sugar in our morning cup of joe so we switched to table sugar, only slightly  better but we try to keep it the only sugar in our diets.  Two weeks ago, I started researching stevia and started using pure stevia drops in my coffee, its not as sweet but its working, Hubby didn't want to try it so he is still on table sugar.
  • We eat less carbs, we have no desire to be carb free but we have switched to brown/wild rice, whole wheat breads and pasta and sweet potatoes replaced our white ones.
  • I eat less processed foods, started buying our milk and some cheese from a local dairy that does not homogenize.  We buy organic from local farmers markets and farms whenever possible.
Nutrition:  We do not strive to be perfect in our quest for a healthier lifestyle.  We do not wish to have forbidden foods, instead we are trying to make conscious choices.  Right now I strive to keep my calories @1200 per day, I do not subtract for workouts.  But tracking helps me to keep my protein high, I strive for 60-80g of protein.  I also like to review my food choices to analyze nutrients to be sure I am getting ample iron and b12.  I don't know if tracking will always be a part of our new healthy lifestyle, it has become simpler with smart phones. For now, I need the information it provides.  I still have a really long way to go to be considered healthy, but I am trying!
Fitness:  I have increased my walks to 2 miles 3x a day.  I am not allowed to gym for 3 more weeks but yesterday I tried some light squats.

2 weeks-Post Op

I can hardly believe it has only been two weeks.  The pain is gone with the exception of a tightening in my tummy when I eat.   My incisions still have scabs but they are healing quickly.  No one would even be able to tell that I had surgery today.

I am walking 3x a day, 45 minutes, 30 minutes and 15 minutes.  Today I am adding stretches and some light resistance band workouts.  Even though I feel like I could do some light gym work, my doctor wants me to wait 4 weeks.  I am considering do some very light arm weights, just to get my arm muscles some use.  I will avoid all abdominal workouts.

My appetite is non existent.  My head hunger is still very much alive and kicking.  Even though I know that I am not hungry, smells can still make my mouth water.  I know I will certainly have much head work to do along my journey.  This week I was able to begin eating oatmeal, sweet potatoes and small white potatoes.  I have been sticking to protein fortified oatmeal right now to get my protein in but once I am able to eat other protein, I will switch to plain oatmeal.  I baked a sweet potato, removed the skin, sprinkled it with pumpkin spice and eat very small bites.  I was able to eat 1/4 of it the first time.  The next meal I was able to eat a bit more.  Tonight I will make rosemary potatoes.

I managed to get my calories into the 900's today.  It will be necessary to get my intake to about 1200 per day before I can increase my workout intensity.  My recovery seems to be going very well.

Weekly Weigh-In Post

Last Weeks Weight:  195.5                                   This Weeks Weight:  192

-3.5 lb Loss
Happy Spring!
Everyday I feel stronger and in less pain from my incisions.  I am able to walk 40 minutes without any discomfort.  The weather has been beautiful.  Next week I plan to add a little Wii Fit to the mixture, mainly the step routine.

My diet may now include unsweetened applesauce, greek yogurts and cottage cheese.  So far I have not experienced any problems eating any of them, other than a little tightening as it goes down.  The feeling reminds me of the soreness I would experience when I add fill during my lap-band days so I credit the pain to swelling.  As I am allowed to add foods to my diet I am being cautious not to add fake food.  For instance, SF pudding is allowed right now, but there is no nutritional value to add it to my diet.  I never ate it before, why should I add this fake food now?  I will add items when it is allowed in its natural form.  I did buy the applesauce initially, but going forward I will make my own.

I am getting in my 64ox of water now without much difficulty.

I discontinued my blood pressure meds since I arrived home from surgery.  Each morning I note my monitor readings, if it goes up, I will try 1/2 pill, but so far it has been stable.

My granddaughters will be visiting today and staying for the weekend.  I am looking forward to enjoying this gorgeous spring weather with them.  The rest of week seem uneventful, I don't expect any challenges with my very limited diet.

Day 8 - Post Op

Each morning I wake up feeling less pain.  Today was an exceptionally great morning because I was allowed my morning cup of coffee with a little soy milk & stevia.  OMGosh I missed my morning cup of Joe.  I like an occasional cup of herbal tea, especially some chamomile in the evening, but in the morning I love the smell of coffee.  All was right in the world once I've enjoyed that cup!

Today I have moved onto full liquids.  I drank my first chocolate protein shake and it was a wonderful change from the clear isopure & clear chicken protein broth I was drinking.  I am one who enjoys smoothies and protein shakes.  I love to be creative with different flavorings and ingredients.  Protein shakes/smoothies were always sliders for me.  I would drink some yummy concoction I came up with and be hungry again because it didn't stay in my tummy long.  I will have to watch should it become a problem down the road, but for now.....I am enjoying them.

I've been increasing the length of walks each day and can do about 25 minutes 4x a day now.  I will probably be doing 30 minute walks by end of the week.  I'm anxious to start some strength training to protect from muscle loss but I know I am not there yet and don't want to push it.

I keep a water bottle near me at all times, sipping throughout the day and having no trouble getting my water in.  Yesterday Hubby and I shopped for some groceries for my next stage which starts on Thursday.  I bought some greek yogurt, cottage cheese, SF greek yogurt frozen bars and some SF pudding.  I am to try one item at a time and wait to see if I have any reactions before moving onto the next...Exciting stuff right? lol

Live is Good!

One Week Post Op Check up...

This first week has flown by.  While the first days were very very tough, the weekend started looking up and today I feel great.  I now take 20 minute walks 4x a day.  I am having no problems with gas or nausea.  I still have some tenderness as my body heal.  I am getting 80g protein each day.

My appt today was with my NP.  She removed the tape that was still on my incisions.  She said my lungs sounded clear.  She added iron supplements to my multivitamins & calcium.  I hope to find my nutrition from food once I am cleared to eat regular food.

This week I am able to add full protein shakes and creamed soups,  which would be a awesome break from the clear liquids I have been on .  On Thursday I will be able to try some yogurt.

Oh and and I can try my morning cup of JOE tomorrow....how I've missed him!

Day 6-Post-Op

Thanks for all the words of encouragement .  What a difference three days can make!

I have Very little pain now, mostly just sore around incisions.   I am walking up & down my street several times a day, extending my walks slightly each day.  I feel very optimistic today.  Following Doctors instructions precisely.  Onward!

Thursday, March 13, 2014

Day 3-Post Op

I am still drinking clear liquids, protein and soups.  My mouth is still dry all the time.  I am feeling sorry for myself.   I really do hope I have done the right thing.  Sometimes I wonder if it would have been so bad to be obese during last years of my life.  I am down in the dumps today, not sure why.

My doctor called me yesterday to check on me.  He is really is a nice guy.

Day 2- Post OP

Last night was rough, tossed & turned even with pain killers.  I feel sorry for my Hubby because I know he didn't get much sleep either.  I have bee sipping on Isopure alpine puch & unjury chicken broth.  I am keeping up with my walks.  I am quite surprised at how long it will be before I can eat real food.  I'm also practicing my deep breathing exercise?

Tuesday, March 11, 2014

Day 1 - home

My blood work came out good so they discharged me today.  My tummy is a little sore around the incisions but that only pain I feeling right now.  I have sip 4-5 oz of clear liquids for the first 7 days.  I bought some unjury chicken flavored broth mix.  It's pretty good.  I am to take nausea meds until I see my doctor again next Monday.  He also prescribed some pain meds, but I will only take them at night. My tummy is swollen from the gas so I have to walk, walk, walk, sip, sip, sip.

My mouth still feels like cotton, hope that goes away soon YUCK!  I was surprised at how my hunger comes back whenever I smell food even though I am do not feel like eating anything at all.

Sleeved!

Ok, my last few Posts have been all over the place.  Get sleeved don't get sleeved but remove the lap band either way.  When I got to the hospital they had me down for sleeve and or band removal.  my wonderful surgeon sat me down and listen to all my concerns.  He said that lap band people who got the sleeve was generally very happy, he's never had anyone to go through having a sleeve that regretted it.

So I did it, I'm sleeved.  My surgeon also said that I have a problem with my intestines, that they're not where they should be.  My intestines out what were adhered to scar tissue from my gallbladder surgery 15 years ago.  He said I may end up in another surgery down the road to correct it.

Now it's time to work that sleeve and lose the weight that I need to stay healthy for my family my husband and my grandkids.
