Fill abuse?

Occasionally I still read and post on the lapbandtalk board. I am always looking for new tips and information being shared. Today I was somewhat shocked  to read this post by katbabie34.  I pride myself in keeping my blog upbeat and try to stay away from preaching.  After all, I consider myself still a newbie with so much more to learn about being banded.  Anyone who reads my blog regularly knows that I vacation ALOT.  Cruises and travel are my recreation.  I have gone on cruises that were 5,7,14 & 16 days long.  Have gone on car trips that long in between.  The thought of doing this to myself never crossed my mind.  I cannot even imagine the look on my doctor's face if I came into his office and asked him to do this.  I can just see all the blood draining from his face, his hands clenched and shaking.....just kidding.  But I think he would want me to go to counseling to say the least :)

My question here today is............Have you considered having an unfill just so that you could overeat at a function???

  1. That chick has to be mental. Sorry, but to go for an unfil so you can eat like "normal". Sort of defeating the purpose of the band, huh? For me, I don't WANT to eat like I used to. Sorry, but that chick is koo-kooka-choo. I am going on a cruise in March for a week and I am thrilled I will have the band to keep me on track, not to go off the rails! Your responses were great, by the way. Very nice and diplomatic!

  2. Hello I'm a new follower and just wanted to thank you for following me. I look forward to reading your blog. :)

I haven't had my surgery yet but I know for a fact that I would never go down that rode. What's the point of being banded if people are going to be doing that ya know.

  7. Dear God... in the time I have gone through with my unfill and getting refilled I have been miserable. I hate being able to overeat. I can't imagine doing it intentionally.

  8. It is unwise to unfill vacation purposes I think. I do know and/or have read about those who have. I look at this band thing as a long term solution and as such unfilling for a break goes against the goal. The only reason I might unfill is concern over being in a place where I had no access to medical care if I got into trouble. I have never gone there..thus never done that :)

  9. I loved your response to her post. My Dr. would tell me to get it taken out if I'm not serious about it. We can vacation and indulge, but just a little. Plus to go through the drama of unfill(which I've done) sucks.

  10. you hit the nail on the head!! I think my doc would have asked me to leave !!! That is just so counter productive to the whole point behind the lap band and it is a real shame bcuz people who dont really get it dont just end up hurting themselves in the long run but hurt the chances of those who actually want to change their life with the help of the band from getting the insurance coverage !!! Simply disgusting of katbabie34 !!!

  11. I don't think I could get an un-fill just so I can eat, but I think in a way I postpone my fills. So maybe its the same thing I don't know. I don't really do it on purpose, I think sometimes people look at this surgery as the magic answer. And I think those are the people who will gain it back.
